Technicolor cake

This is the disguised carrot cake I made my sister for her last birthday. I am not a huge fan of fondant because of the general plastic sugar taste it has, but it is really great for sculpting decorations for cake. I colored the fondant with Wilton gel colors and Wilton brand sparkle writing pens. The irony of this all is that the cake hiding beneath all that  technicolor bling is made with entirely organic ingredients.  I cut the flowers out of fondant with one of my several thousand cookie cutters.  Although its wasteful, until I devise a better way to sculpt such pretty and colorful things on food without the use of artificial colors (which have been linked to ADHD and a host of other ailments I'll get into at another time) you can peel off the fondant and just eat the good stuff! And just about every wedding cake I've made in the past three years has wanted at least a bit of fondant decor on it, so it looks like this trend may stick a while, despite research that says it may be harming our health.... Anyhow, Everyone thought it turned out pretty cute!
