Red Wine Popsicles

Anyone who has read this blog for a bit probably remembers the absolute glee I described last summer when I started making popsicles. They really float my boat, (although I am fairly easy to excite). Yesterday was the first of our five disgustingly hot Minnesota days of summer, and as all of us from the Mid-west can attest, it's quite the hot topic. Most regions with more than a single digit amount of days a year where it's above ninety degrees prepare with air conditioning, but around these parts, few of us own such an apparatus, as it's not necessary very often. For these such sweltering nights, I sit in our third story apartment with two fans on me, one oscillating, one directly aimed at my face. It works until you step away a moment and feel like the air is made of warm honey as you make your way to the kitchen for a popsicle or a glass of ice water. In my heat-stricken delirium I did have the idea to make popsicles, and the bottle of open  red wine getting old on my counter was a fun addition to these sweet popsicles!

 Red Wine  Popsicles

-1/2 cup blueberries
-1/2 cup chopped red grapes
- 1 cup grape juice
-1/2 cup red wine ( I used a Merlot, use something sweeter  if desired)
- 1 t. lemon juice
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and place in popsicle molds or ice cube trays and freeze 2-3 hours before serving.

Popsicles for adults anyone?

They are sweet and the wine gives it a slushy texture and a rich grape flavor.

I thought these would make a fun dessert for a BBQ on a hot night. I garnished the sticks by hot gluing wine corks to them. Watch out Martha Stewart, I'm coming for ya! And my parents told me studying art in college was pointless. psh.

This is a great way to use up some wine that's maybe a bit flat or that you want to get rid of. I'm stoked to try different kinds of wine with popsicles now, I'm thinking some champagne ones next perhaps??
