- I want to extend the length of my neighborhood tween girls shorts to at LEAST another 3 inches... They're just too revealing for the naive little things. And if they're not just naive, well, that's a whole other level of disturbing for me to ponder...
- I find myself preoccupied with the responsibilities of adulthood that alluded me in my bohemian early twenties. Then I spent days writing and painting, philosophizing and daydreaming ( which I still do, just not quite as much), and now I think about my 401K and how I'm one broken leg away from destitution without health care.
- I felt my nose wrinkle in response to a cute early 20's girl's avant-garde sort of shaved on the sides head with a funny tuft of hair in the middle, when early twenties Kala would have done the exact same thing in the throes of a feminist expression.
So after close reflection on this phenomenon, I am down for turning thirty. This decade has been very, very incredible in a lot of ways, and I've also done a lot of stupid things, and a memoir will be written eventually. I have met a plethora of incredible people, and lost several as well in my twenties. I've got a sweet cat, an amazing boyfriend, two unbelievably special nieces, and all of this happened in my twenties. So the future is looking up, eh? I decided to make a smoothie regimen to ease myself into the thirty-something me with vitality and style, a smoothie with every healthy thing I can get my hands on. It's a good way to set some ideas into motion to make a smoothie out of whatever you have to get rid of.
Everything but the kitchen sink smoothies
-1/2 banana
-1/2 cup blueberries, blackberries, strawberries or cherries
-1/2 cup spinach, kale or spring greens
-1/2 pear, apple or orange
- 1 cup any flavor yogurt
- 1/2 cup juice of any kind ( I used coconut water, YUM!)
- 2 T. Whey, flax, or hempseeds
-1 T. Agave nectar, honey or sugar
Directions:Combine all ingredients in blender and blend to combine.
* You can use any or all of the ingredients. Whatever you don't want, omit.
How's that for a lovely color? I prefer to use spinach in my smoothies, but a friend of mine uses kale and celery leaves for greens and swears they make her feel like a champ.
This recipe makes enough for a large-ish meal replacement sized smoothie, but you could make two smaller ones and share with a friend. They make a great nutritious snack that's filling and helps knock a few servings of fruit and veggies off your daily dietary to-do list in one false swoop. Cheers!
