Fabulous French Toast

There are few things that are as enticing as walking into a bakery and smelling the rich woodsy scent of freshly brewed coffee, hearing the bubbling whir of the espresso wands studiously frothing milk, and the aroma of fresh bread and muffins wafting throughout. One place I worked had vents beside the oven that were sort of for ventilation purposes, and what I suspected were otherwise to send the smell of our fresh bread all over the sidewalks. It worked, because it was hard for the passersby to resist coming in to see what was making that heavenly scent.

I am forever fearful for the local bakeries abilities to stay open. They face a lot of threats out there in this big, cheaply made society. Wal-mart bakery goods sell for basically pennies, and Gluten-free proponents  make bread seem like Jack the Ripper. Well, in moderation I can assure you, bread is your friend. Unless you have  a real sensitivity, then you should avoid it, of course.

My lovely sister and nieces were in town this weekend, and we stopped by an awesome local bakery to get some coffee, and she came out with some fabulous cranberry- sunflower seed bread. We decided it was high time for some tasty brunch today, and made some killer french toast.

Fabulous French Toast

-6 slices of bread of your choice
-6 eggs
-2 t. cinnamon
-1/2 t. ginger
-1/4 cup sugar
-1 T. orange zest
-3/4 cup half-and-half
-1 t. vanilla
-1 T. butter

Directions: In a large bowl, whisk eggs until combined.  Add cinnamon, ginger, sugar, orange zest, half and half and vanilla and stir to combine. Heat skilled and melt butter. Dredge pieces of bread in mixture until coated and brown in pan  until egg coating is cooked and browned to desired consistency. Serve with berries and syrup.

My favorite breakfast food on earth, right here folks.

The delicious fresh bread was a great idea, and the mixture was the perfect amount of spices and sweetness. I highly recommend making this for any meal. And of course, buying the bread from your awesome bakeries whenever possible.=) Enjoy!!
