Tangerine Blueberry Healing Smoothie

I somehow managed to get a pretty gnarly cold this weekend. I usually don't get sick all too often, to be honest. I eat a ton of healthy foods, and scrub my hands and sanitize the lurking germs into submission obsessively.

Think Jack Nicholson in "As Good as it Gets" and you'd have a pretty accurate mental picture.

Having worked in both food and health care, you learn to do a lot of scrubbing.

I could feel something was amiss this weekend after being perpetually chilled, and sure enough after stubbornly playing volleyball in the rain last night despite my better judgement, I woke up in the middle of the night in pure misery. I was thankful to have today off to rest and attempt to heal myself. I slept forever, then tried to muster up the energy to go take a sauna, but the effort to put on clothes sounded like too much trouble. So, here I sit, going from couch to computer chair in my slipper socks and pajamas, letting out the occasional pitiful moan that hurts like hell because my vocal chords are on fire, but lets me fully express to the empty apartment how awful I feel.

One side effect of said cold is that I have no appetite. After 18 hours without food, I decided to make the healthiest smoothie I could manage with things around the house to try and heal myself, because this girl's in for the day for sure. I also ate a few olives stuffed with whole cloves of garlic, because garlic is supposed to be an anti-viral, so we'll see what happens.

Tangerine Blueberry Healing Smoothie

-1 tangerine, peeled
-1 cup blueberries
-1/2 cup plain Kefir
-1 cup Kale
- 1/2 banana
-1 T. chia seeds
-1 T. honey
Directions:
Blend all ingredients in blender until combined. Serve.

It tasted good, from what I could tell.

I finally bought into the whole Chia Seed thing, because I just kept hearing about them. They are super expensive, and the only ones I could find didn't have as much calcium as all the research I did on them beforehand boasted, so I'm not convinced they are more than a fad at this point. And I am terrified they will make my hair turn green like the chia head pet we had when I was a kid. Haha.

Now I'm going to lay on the couch and try and find something on Netflix and try to heal.
