Wedding Cake

It's that time of year again where nuptials are a brewing! I first wanted to start out saying that this cake was my favorite wedding cake to make thus far, and my most challenging at the same time, for many reasons.
Reason #1: It was the last big cake of the season, after I'd done 8 weekends of ginourmous ( not a word, so it doesn't need a proper spelling) wedding cakes
Reason #2 It was 90 degrees in my apartment and our air conditioning broke
Reason #3 I got Lyme's disease and cellulitis from the bite and basically started having seizures while I was decorating it, and almost dropped it several times the morning of the wedding it was for....

The room where the food was served was dimly lit and candles were used to give it a beautiful ambiance. The cake itself was one layer dark chocolate with raspberry filling, the next was lemon with lemon curd, and the top was white with vanilla pudding. The whole thing was covered in a butter cream frosting.

I was busy trying not to die on my couch, so I couldn't take photos at the cutting and make sure all the details are showing, but I gathered a bunch of twigs and made a topper with them. I got a little plastic nest at a craft store, and the bride had ordered a bunch of adorable little cloth butterflies that I placed on the layers with some snowball flowers and lilacs. The candles had pink hues, so they gave it an even more beautiful coloring.

It turned out looking very elegant and natural looking, and the butterflies looked like they were just landing for a spell to grab a taste of cake. I was really thrilled when it turned out as lovely as it did, because I was in really rough shape, and probably would have cried if I dropped this 15 hour labor of love!
